THIS IS AN EXCELENT EDUCATIONAL AND ENTERTAINING BOOK WRITTEN BY AN OBVIOUSLY TALENTED WOMAN. I WISH SUCH A SIMPLIFIED DESCRIPTION OF THE ALPHABET HAD BEEN AVAILABLE WHEN I WAS A YOUNGSTER.
My two boys (ages 6 and 4) love reading this book. The space and mystery theme that is intertwined with the basics of letter writing is extremely clever and well thought out. The premise that letter formations are really all about lines and curves give the readers confidence to try letters on their own. Now I can hear my little one saying, " big line down, hop to the top..." when he makes his upper case letters. Last but not least, the illustrations are lively and engaging!
My son (just turned five) and I so enjoy The Mystery of the Land of Letters. First, as a lover of anything to do with space, planets and rocket ships, my son loves this story where Spot and Freckles, two alien friends, are off on an exciting space adventure to find The Land of Letters. I love the book because while he is enjoying this fun story, he is also learning all about how letters are created and how simple writing really is. I particularly appreciate the stencils that the author includes in the back of the book so that kids can practice creating letters with the "lines and curves" needed to do so. In addition, it is so helpful for parents to have the detailed writing directions for every alphabet letter (also included in the back of the book). My son is writing beautiful letters and words and doing so the correct way (thereby avoiding establishing poor writing habits). This book truly does demystify the process of writing letters for kids in such a simple, easy way. It's a wonderful tool for parents, teachers and especially kids to have at their disposal . . . and the enjoyable story is the icing on the cake!
